Merdeka Month Celebration

2009 marks Malaysia’s 52nd year of independence, and to celebrate, the country will come together for its annual Merdeka Day celebration taking place on August 31. On the eve of the Merdeka Celebration, the country adorns the mood of a carnival with gorgeous dances, fireworks full of color and light and performances by local artists.The Jalur Gemilang(national flag) is raised at midnight amid patriotic citizens of Malaysia cheering 'Merdeka'. On the day of the Merdeka Celebration, an exhibition depicting Malaysia's glorious history is set up and fireworks are lighted.
