| | Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin stressed that tourists have no need to worry about traveling to the east coast of Sabah as the state is peaceful. The Deputy Prime Minister issued this statement after the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia warned that tourists should exercise caution when traveling to this area.
Sabah and the surrounding islands are safe as the Malaysian armed forces are on full alert patrolling and monitoring the waters off the east coast of Sabah, according to Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin.
"I want to assure all tourists and people living in islands in Sabah's east coast that they should not be worried for their safety," said Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman, who reiterated the view that the east coast is safe, said tourism on the islands has not been affected by the advisory.
"As of now, Sipadan is fully booked for seven months."
